The Goodyear welt (or Goodyear stitched construction) is a double stitch. The first stitch joins the upper, the insole and the welt (a small strip of leather placed between two layers of leather to strengthen the seam). A second stitch attaches the welt to the outsole. Goodyear construction is synonymous with very high-end quality and allows the boots to be resoled.
