LA CAMARGUAISE
Michel qualifies as a shoe stitcher, maker and finisher
The adventure begins as soon as Michel earns his diploma in Romans, the capital of shoemaking. His apprenticeship lasted 7 years.
1983
Sandal production begins.

For the Vernet family, shoes are a family affair: everyone has a part to play in this adventure!
1985
The factory is built in Le Bousquet d’Orb and the “El Lobo” brand is created
Michel leaves his native Drôme to continue making sandals and starts making Indian moccasins with the creation of the “El Lobo” brand.
Michel imagines, creates and draws every model of the brand.
1992
All production is brought together in the Lunel factory.
They also open two shops: one in Lunel and the other in Le Grau-du-Roi. The latter still exists, and Caroline will be delighted to welcome you there.
The 90s
International success for the company
The range expands to a collection of fringed clothing (very fashionable at the time). Pieces still imagined and drawn by Michel.
Throughout this period, the company never stopped working flat out! The factory had 47 employees and 700 retailers sold the brand all over France and abroad. Twice a year, La Camarguaise took part in trade shows. They even went as far as exhibiting in Denver, Colorado.
1994
Miss Languedoc 1994, the brand’s new face
Michel designs a dress especially for Miss Languedoc 1994. She then becomes the brand’s model.
The 2000s
The partnership with Portugal begins.
In the 2000s, with retirement approaching and no one to take over production, the Vernet family decided to keep the brand but to entrust manufacturing to Portugal. They chose a factory that stays true to their quality standards. This factory already makes shoes for major brands such as Free Lance and Aigle.
The team regularly travels there to keep creating new models and to make sure production runs smoothly.
All the sandal collections, however, are made in France.
